On horseback after the race, Pat Day thanks Mr. Phipps and Shug for merely KEEPING him on the horse. I have never heard a jockey state he was thankful to the connections for merely being kept on the horse, after the race, either on horseback, or interviewed and quoted afterwards. Day knew.
Easy Goer, the greatest performance in any Triple Crown race since Secretariat almost 40 years ago! And Easy Goer ran these all time performances at every distance he ran, 6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F.
This race was never in question. Still goosebumps. This was the only year that I stuck with Easy Goer all three races. Funny to hear Jim McKay say "No Triple Crown. It will be at least 12 years!"
