also too rip wasnt champion middle distance horse in europe you sure you havent heard of sea the stars he was the champ.and please dont even say zen would have had a chance against that monster.zen ran in 2 open class races and won 1 in her whole career and had the easiest schedule out of any horse in those 2 races leading up to them.you look at ra,zarakava, goldi, makybe diva all in the last6 years they took on all comers in open class races thats what a champ is.

you know rip van winkle and gio ponti were turf horses right?in ra 3 yr old season zen wasnt beating her but it was that brutal season that also ruined ra too we saw that the next year.ra was at or near setting track records and she was a horse that didnt quit up front.when zen finally faced a good dirt colt in blame you found out what happened when horses dont quit.ra faced more colts in 4 months than zen did in 4 years of racing.

Rachel ran against better fields? how so? Z beat Euro champion middle distance horse Rip Van WInkle, beat 2 BC Distaff champs Ginger Punch and Life is Sweet, beat champion older horse Gio Ponti. Who did Rachel beat that was better than any of those? the best two horses RA beat (summer Bird and Mine that Bird), Z destroyed. Rachel couldn't even beat Zenyatta's stable pony, Zardana, in her own back yard Z won 2 BC races, and lost a 3rd by a head. Rachel didn't even compete in a BC race.

@martykate excellent point i'm in total agreement with you but not taking anything away from IHA and his great run huge heart but yes way outran his bloodlines i know all about the sire flower alley and distance i'm talking about winning grade 1 stakes no one thought this colt could achieve this bought for under 30k and when everyone said i was nuts about UR sire DIXIE UNION won't get 1 1/2 mile what people overlooked UR had great dist breeding on dam's side 2nd and 3rd generation 1 1/2 mile

Bob Baffert and his idiot wife probably fired Mike Smith because of Paynter's loss. UR is just one hell of a horse, he just took his sweet time about showing up!!!!

And the horse he trained is consignd to Japan because there are too many good studs who've had to cut their fees because only the top mares are being bred as frequently as they used to. I'll have another was fun to watch, but he's not a quality horse. Heart, yes, but he doesn't have the pedigree

I'm also a Durkin fan, but there is always a time where one needs to call it quits, in any career. He just doesn't have the same "Tiznow wins it for America" in him anymore.

I've always wondered about Big Red vs. Big Red. Secretariat was a hell of a horse, but the only thing he could produce was excellent broodmares. I always wonder why that happens.

Maybe he'll forgive her--LOL! I'd like to see R2R bred to Read the Footnotes, only I wouldn't wish that temperament combination on any barn--even O'Neil or Rick give em drugs

You're going to draw the wrath of a lot of Durkin fans, me included. He's my favorite of the "race callers". what you think ain't necessrily so.

Do you think Curlin would be able to perform after being beaten by her in the Belmont? ; ) I have to agree about Rachel. Sure, Zenyatta was great and got most of the press, but she was mostly put up in easy fields, whereas R ran with better. The match race never happened, of course, but I simply don't think Z could have run with R one on one. She needed a field to push a front runner so she could close.

They both were and are tremendously talented horses. I hope that R2R is bred to Curlin. Her Man o' War and temperament might get mellowed out. Two of my fav horses of all time (along with Rachel--of whom I will hear no wrong)

Never give up the rail....that's a big NoNo!! Paynter had the race won but gave up the rail. Make the chasing horse go around you but don't make it easy for him!

he said over past couple years back ?i think? around 2003, 4'ish'? again not sure xactly, but he said he'd have total panic attacks and had constant stress due to the anxiety in the days leading up to the KD, PRKNSS, and BLMNT and the anxiety was just adding up to too much pressure on his heart or sumthin close to that, anyway i'm certain of the anxiety part i read his own words on that. T.Denman is easily the best, has the voice he's accurate and makes it look second nature
