| Race Synopsis: Fiveandahalfstar went straight to the lead as expected and Bowman rated the three-year-old well, getting away with a moderate pace for the first 1800m. The tempo increased passing the 600m and he kept responding running the 2400m right out to win narrowly but well. He should run boldly again in the Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick next Saturday. The 2012 New Zealand Derby winner (Gr 1, 2400m) Silent Achiever was last on the rails at the 1000m. She stuck to the inside on turning for home and went through to fourth at the 400m and then continued to run on gamely in the sprint home (leaders running 35.11) to fail by only a head. It was a very good effort. Sangster was fourth, one out and one back, switched out wide nearing the home turn,
running on well for a good third also being unsuited by the pace. Kelinni was about eighth and took off early due to the moderate pace to challenge the leader (Fiveandahalfstar) coming to the turn. He then fought on well for a good fourth. Foreteller ran on quite well for fifth while Maluckyday came from well back on the rails for a sound sixth being unsuited by the tempo of the race. He still looks on target for the Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) on 27 April. | |
