R8 ROSEHILL | 22 March 2014 |
Ranvet Stakes G1 3U OPEN ($505,000), 2000m 2:02.30 | |
Race Synopsis: Top class New Zealand mare Silent Achiever worked across gradually from her outside barrier (9) to race in second place. She then sat back about six lengths from the leader Carlton House as he stepped up the tempo from the 1200m mark.
She chased gamely in the straight, getting up to score a last stride win by a half a head in a strong performance.
Carlton House went straight to the lead. Kerrin McEvoy let him run along in the back straight, setting up a clear lead from the 800m. He came back to the field nearing the turn then lifted again and looked the winner in the straight, only being headed in the last stride for a game second in his best of four Australian starts to date.
It’s A Dundeel ($3) was back in fifth place, tracking main rival Fiorente, before putting in a run at the 300m. He then kept running on quite well to take third, beaten a length and three quarters. He should be further improved, this being only his second run this preparation.
Hawkspur was near last in the nine-horse field to the 600m. He took a run in the centre passing the 300m and ran on nicely for a good fourth, beaten two and a half lengths. He too should be further improved by the run, his third this preparation.
Sertorius travelled in fourth place on the rails, was under pressure from the 600m but kept battling on in the straight for a sound fifth.
Moriarty made good ground from last at the 600m for very encouraging sixth while the favourite Fiorente ($2.60) raced below his best form. He was back in fourth place, one off the rails without cover. He looked a threat as he moved up to third (three wide) rounding the home turn but he only battled on in the straight to finish seventh, beaten four lengths. |

I think he was given a soft lead here.He was rated superior to Fiorente over here but always looked to be a bridle horse. Can't see him being competitive in any race at Ascot unless his time in Oz really has sorted out his attitude.

Certainly the best that Carlton House has looked so far in any of his races in Australia. Wouldn't be surprised to see Queen Elizabeth II calling him back to Great Britain very soon with the royal meeting at Ascot looming on the horizon in June.
