R7 ROSEHILL21 March 2015
Tooheys New Golden Slipper G1 2 OPEN ($3,529,500), 1200m 1:09.74
Race Synopsis: Vancouver took his impressive record to four starts for as many wins with a courageous effort in overcoming his outside barrier position (16). He was smartly away and crossed to settle in seventh place, wide with cover. He moved up (deep) rounding the home turn, hit the front at the 200m and lifted gamely when challenged to win by three quarters of a length. English got a good run from barrier five, racing in about ninth place on the rails. Blake Shinn eased her across heels rounding the home turn, she challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second. Lake Geneva had a nice trip, seventh on the rails, got a split at the 200m and battled on well for a good third. Ready For Victory raced in eighth place, one off the rails. He improved coming to the home turn but then hung out badly, at his first start this direction. He continued to make ground in the centre of the track, despite racing greenly and drifting wider, to finish (1.8 lengths) fourth. It was only his second start and he is a colt with unlimited potential. Headwater was quickly away then eased to race in fifth place, with cover. He got a split at the 300m, challenged shortly afterwards and held on for a sound fifth, beaten just under two lengths. Furnaces raced behind the leader, after beginning well from barrier one. He challenged at the 200m and then held on for a sound (2 lengths) sixth after seeming to have every chance. Serenade (2.1 lengths) seventh, Odyssey Moon (2.2 lengths) eighth and Ottoman (3.2 lengths) ninth, all made good late ground. Exosphere, previously unbeaten in two starts this preparation, raced back in 12th place, but dropped out on turning for home to finish last. He was later found to have suffered a cardiac arrhythmia and will require an ECG and a satisfactory barrier trial before racing again.
