R7 ROSEHILL19 March 2016
Golden Slipper G1 2 OPEN ($3,529,500), 1200m 1:10.59
Race Synopsis: Capitalist began well from his good barrier (2) and settled nicely in seventh place on the rails before switching between runners shortly after turning for home. He then sprinted quickly to challenge at the 200m, took the lead at the 100m and then fought back to win well after enjoying a perfect trip throughout. It was also an excellent ride by Blake Shinn. Yankee Rose raced back in ninth place, between runners, switched out on straightening, responded well from the 200m and came with a strong finish to take second in an impressive first-up effort at her third race start. Flying Artie drove through in the early stages to settle in third place on the rails. He got an inside run shortly after turning for home and then kept battling on for a sound third after appearing to have every chance. Telperion went back from his wide barrier (11) and settled near last in the 16-horse field. He improved between runners on straightening, switched to the rails at the 200m and continued to make ground to finish (2.4 lengths) fourth, putting up very smart effort. He should appreciate further and looks a bright prospect in the longer three-year-old majors over the autumn carnival. Honesty Prevails was a handy fifth, between runners, put in a brief bid on turning for home and kept battling on well to finish (2.9 lengths) fifth. Star Turn was 12th to the home turn and caught the eye running on nicely for sixth. Outsider Sweet Sherry showed good pace and led the field until passing the 200m and held on for (3.7 lengths) seventh after running a bold race. The favourite Extreme Choice missed the start badly and was last in the 16-horse field in the early stages. He was under riding at the home turn, went back to the rails at the 300m and kept making ground, without threatening, for (4.3 lengths) eighth after losing all realistic chance at the start.
