| Race Synopsis: Irish-bred imported stayer Gallante began well from his outside barrier (11) and crossed smartly to the lead. He then travelled along at a good tempo, was challenged at the 700m but drew to a clear lead again nearing the home turn. He then fought back strongly in the straight before going on to score a very good win, in a strong staying effort. Favourite Libran had a good trip in seventh place, moved up really well at the 600m and looked the winner when he challenged at the 300m. But he found the leader too strong in the closing stages and then fought on for a good second. Grand Marshal had a nice trip in eighth place, before tracking up well from 600m. He went to third nearing the 200m and then kept battling strongly to hold that position at the post. Who Shot Thebarman raced back in tenth place, made a wide move from the 600m and challenged at the 200m. He then kept fighting on for (5 lengths) fourth, putting up a sound effort under his (57kg) top weight. | |
