| Race Synopsis: The Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Flamberge backed-up that Group One success with another Group One victory here at his very next start. He began well from his good barrier (2) and settled in third place on the rails. He got a good run through along the rails rounding the home turn, challenged strongly at the 100m and finished a bit too well for a narrow but good win. The three-yearold Holler showed is customary pace and went to the front. He was then pressured a bit in the lead but stuck on well in the straight, failing narrowly in a game performance. Another three-year-old Japonisme was caught deep from his wide barrier (11), racing in sixth place. He moved up well (very wide) nearing the home turn, got to third (in the centre of the track) at the 100m and fought well for a good third after a wide trip. Fast ‘N’ Rocking was near last to the home turn and ran on late for a good fourth. The Quarterback missed the start badly, was a distant last in the early stages and impressed making considerable ground for fifth. The favourite Lucky Hussler raced midfield (wide with cover), looked for a run between horses at the home turn but failed to gain clear running before finishing an untested ninth. | |
