R7 CAULFIELD11 February 2017
C.F. Orr Stakes G1 3U OPEN ($502,000), 1400m 1:22.55
Race Synopsis: Black Heart Bart, improved by one run from a spell, returned to his best in scoring his fourth Group One race here, now remaining unbeaten in three runs over 1400m at Caulfield. He settled in eighth place (wide with cover), tracked up well from the 600m before switching out to make his run on straightening. He challenged at the 100m and then finished too well to score impressively. Three-time Group One winner Turn Me Loose returned to some of his best form, running a bold race here. He showed his early pace and soon went to the front and grabbed a good break on turning for home. He was only headed at the 50m and then held on well for second, in a promising effort at his second run back. Ecuador was smartly away and then eased to settle in four place, one off the rails. He got through to third at the 200m and kept fighting on well to hold that position, putting up a good run. Palentino settled in second last place in the 12-horse field, improved (wide with cover) from the 600m, fanned deep on straightening and kept ran on really well to dead-heat for (1.6 lengths) fourth with Jameka who also caught the eye. She settled in last place, went widest of all at the home turn and then ran on strongly in an excellent first up effort. Malaguerra showed good early pace but worked from barrier 12 before crossing to race outside the leader (Turn Me Loose). He was under pressure from the 300m and kept battling on for (2.6 lengths) sixth after a difficult trip.
