Sires' Produce G1 2 OPEN ($1,114,500), 1400m 1:22.10 | |
Race Synopsis: In a surprise result, the $81 chance El Dorado Dreaming, a maiden after three prior starts, broke through for her first win, doing so in good style in this Group One feature. The Ben Smith-trained filly settled in second last place in the 15-horse field, fanned widest of all at the home turn, sprinted quickly to challenge at the 100m and then finished gamely to score by a half-head in an impressive effort. The Tony McEvoy-trained filly Oohood remains a maiden after six starts, which now includes placings at Group One level at her last three starts. She showed much more early pace here and was the eased by Zac Purton to race in sixth place. She was blocked on straightening, got a split and looked the winner at the 100m, only to fail narrowly in holding out the lateclosing winner to finish second. Team Hawkes-trained colt Outrageous raced back in tenth place, was blocked on straightening and finished well when clear late to take a very good third. Long Leaf raced in seventh place, between runners, looked dangerous when he moved up nearing the 200m and then kept fighting on for (1.4 lengths) fourth. |
