Kennedy Mile G1 3U OPEN ($1,002,500), 1600m 1:33.65 | |
Race Synopsis: Godolphin-raced, British-bred import Best Of Days dropped back in distance after his dead-heat success in the Coongy Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Caulfield on October 22 to score well here, his first at Group 1 in 14 starts. He settled in sixth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), tracking a strong pace (first 1000m 58.61). He got a split at the 200m, took the lead at the 50m and fought best under his limit weight (52kg) to win well. Le Romain raced in seventh place (one off the rails), improved well on turning for home. He challenged strongly at the 200m and then battled gamely in another very honest performance for second after conceding 5.5kg to the winner. Peaceful State settled back in 11th place on the rails from his good barrier (2), eased deeper on straightening, got into clear running at the 200m and then fought on well for a sound third. The favourite Land Of Plenty again settled well back in the field and was 14th coming to the 600m before going widest of all on turning for home. He then sprinted well and kept making ground to finish (1.8 lengths) fourth in a very sound effort. |
