| Race Synopsis: Unbeaten in four starts since resuming for the Darren Weir stable, Amphitrite advanced from winning a 3yo maiden (1200m) at Sale on September 9 to taking out this Group 1 feature five weeks later. She settled in last place from her outside barrier (15) behind a quick pace. Improved (deep) rounding the home turn and then came with a strong late bid to grab victory in the last few strides. The $101 outsider Fundamentalist raced in fourth place, on the rails, got into clear running at the 200m, hit to front at the 100m only to be caught on the post for second, beaten a head. Seabrook settled back in 12th place, got between runners on turning for home and finished nicely to take third just in advance of Anjana was handy most of the way and held on well for (1.7 lengths) fourth with Thrillster (2 lengths) third after working outside leader for fifth while the favourite Smart Melody weakening for (2.4 lengths) seventh after a demanding trip in the lead. | |
