Australian Oaks G1 3F OPEN ($1,114,500), 2400m 2:31.26 | |
Race Synopsis: Verry Elleegant is now the winner of her last three starts and she followed up her success in the Vinery Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Rosehill on March 30 with an impressive performance in taking out this Group 1. She settled quite well for James McDonald back in tenth place before tracking into the race (wide with cover) from the 700m. She sprinted strongly to take the lead approaching the 100m and then drew clear to score comfortably. Mark Newnham-trained filly Scarlet Dream settled nicely in ninth spot (on the rails) from her inside barrier (1) before tracking up (wide with cover) from the 600m. She switched deeper and into clear running at the 200m and then ran on strongly for second in a really smart effort at her seventh race start. Frankley Awesome settled back in fifth place but made a quick move to take the lead at the 1200m due to the slow pace. She was challenged at the home turn and then kept battling back well for third. Aliferous raced in eighth place, improved between runners rounding the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and then battled on nicely for (5.1 lengths) fourth. |
