Over the past 6 seasons, 3 English St Leger winners have trialed using the
G3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. Conduit won the Gordon Stakes in 2008 and
would go on to win the St Leger. Arctic Cosmos ran 3rd in the 2010 Gordon
Stakes and won the St Leger, and Encke finished a narrowly beaten 2nd
behind Noble Mission in the Gordon Stakes and would go on to foil Camelot's
English Triple Crown bid in the 2012 St Leger. During that same 6 season
period, only 1 English St Leger winner has trialed using the G2 Great
Voltigeur Stakes at York, that being Mastery in 2009. The other 2 St Leger
winners during that same 6 season period trialed using the G3 Bahrain
Trophy(Masked Marvel-2011) and G3 Queen's Vase(Leading Light-2013). Just
some food for thought to consider when handicapping Saturday's G1 English
St Leger.
