    - I was there at River Downs that day too. Bellamy Road still gives me chills, what a great great horse.

This race never gets too old to watch. Bellamy Road was impressive. I remember all the hype around Galloping Grocer as well.

This is the most amazing Grade 1 win I have ever seen. 17 and a half lengths. I saw him as a 2 year old also, at the Cradle Stakes where he dusted Scipion. I'll never get tired of this video.

I saw Bellamy Road win the 2004 Cradle Stakes for 2 year olds at River Downs. River Downs, just south of Cincinatti, isn't where one would expect to see the Kentucky Derby favorite, but the Cradle had featured future Derby winner Spend A Buck in 1984, and the field for the 2004 running came up very strong. Behind Bellamy Road in the Cradle was the favored Scipion, who would go on to win the Risen Star stakes at the Fairgrounds in 2005. Bellamy was machine-like at his best.

What a horse...Maybe the most talented of this decade, among with Bernardini and Ghostzapper. Such a pitty he never went on to be the same after that Derby

He stands at stud. He was way too valuable to cut. This race shows the potential he had.

does anyone have an update on him? is he a stud now or did they cut him?

Great point lengua92,Bellamy Road didn't ever get over his K-Derby. That is a hard race for young 3 yr olds going 10F. in a huge field. But on this day he tremendous, and he should be remembered for this.

I wonder what this horse would have turned into...Scrappy T went to that race with a victory in the Count Fleet at that same track; Going Wild was a top 3yo in the west, but he just destroyed them with such ease.He earned a 120 beyer, the highest ever for a 3y/o before the Derby, and he equaled Riva Ridge's old Aqueduct record. He was an enormous prospect, but he just coudln't win any more. He wasn't the same when he finished far back in the Derby, or when he lost the Travers against Flower Alley

a stunning performance and almost in a canter. Never heard was his Beyer was, but must be in the 125 range. Too bad he never won again.

What an incredible horse who sadly never really fulfilled his through potential. I just could not rate horses like Curlin and Big Brown in the same league as Bellamy Road, Ghostzapper or Point Given in the best dirt horses of the 21st century.

I agree. It is totally amazing how fluid and relaxed he ran to win by so many lengths! Take care.

I heard he romped in this race but WOW!! He looked like he was working out!! no wonder so many thought he would win the Derby!

Ah, Galloping Grocer! One of my favorites in very early 2005 and looked like a real contender. He just peaked before the Derby and was done racing above restricted NY breds.

Thanks tatomka. Glad you liked it. Bellamy ran a monster race that day. I've read that Zito considered him to be in his top two horses he's ever trained along with Unbridled's Song. I've been looking for Smarty's '03 PNS, but it's proving difficult. I'll keep looking and also keep the videos coming for as long as I can. Thanks for your kind comments. Take care

Another great video from you cf. If you could find the video of Smarty Jones'victory in the 2003 Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes, I'll really be amazed. Keep up the good work.
