THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE G1 3U OPEN ($1,685,120), 1200m 1:08.69 | |
Race Synopsis: Champion sprinter Chautauqua staged yet another amazing performance in taking out his fifth Group One race. He was slow to move, a clear last in the 14-horse field on settling and remained in last place until the home turn, where he went widest of all and conceding the leaders at least 12 lengths with 400m to run. He then came with his brilliant closing sprint to hit the front at the 50m and then went on to score by a neck, appearing to win with something in hand in a brilliant effort at his first overseas engagement. Lucky Bubbles had a good trip in seventh place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), behind a fast pace. He switched deep nearing the home turn, sprinted quickly to hit the front at the 100m, briefly looking the winner but he had no answer to the winners’ closing bid to take a very good second. Strathmore showed good early pace before crossing to race in fifth place on the rails. He got a split on straightening, hit the front at the 200m and then battled well for a good third. Gold Fun settled midfield, one off the rails, before going wide on turning for home. He then kept running on in good style, with really looking dangerous, to take a very sound fourth. Of the others, Buffering worked hard to lead and was then pressured in front at a hectic tempo until nearing the 200m before weakening to finish last. |

Chautauqua must have been close to 20 lengths behind the leaders in a classy field in that race. His performance could only be described as unbelievable. Be interested to see where he rates on a world scale, and it will probably be right on top.

If they send him straight from Hong Kong to England that would be fine. But bringing him back here and then to England would be taxing.
Also the other thing I would consider is his style of racing.
I don't think the track, the straight, the uphill run to the finish would suit him getting out to the tail and attempt to storm home over the top would not work in England. They don't run sensational times over the 1200 and it always looks like a bit of a slog albeit Black caviar winning by a whisker and the jockey saying she was stuffed.

I just read that Chautauqua won't be going to Ascot. Oh well, least it sounds as though Buffering wasn't badly injured, so will have a full recovery.

Wow, they really have this boy dialed in now; if they weren't thinking of going to Royal Ascot I hope the connections reconsider.
