This race looked spectacular, but the clock tells the whole story. So many esteemed winners of this race, DK won in 2:08.36, in 1984 Sadler's Wells did it in 2:00.90. Dettori had won it 5 times before, so knew exactly what the fractions should be, hence his enterprizing ride. Clearly Eminent was no Fantastic Light. Will Dettori will ride again for Godolphin before he retires?

Despite earning one of the "win and your in" slots for the G1 Breeders Cup Turf for his win here in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes, trainer Roger Charlton told the Racing Post the following day that they're eyeing the G1 Breeders Cup Mile with Decorated Knight instead. Charlton went on to explain, "it's either the Breeders Cup or the Champion Stakes at Ascot, but we're leaning toward a trip to Del Mar because Decorated Knight prefers fast ground, which you tend not to get at Ascot in October." Chalton said the turn of foot shown by Decorated Knight in this race makes him very hopeful that a strongly run, two-turn mile on what's almost certain to be fast ground at Del Mar would suit Decorated Knight well. Charlton went on to say in the article that whichever race Decorated Knight runs in will be the final start of his career.
