| Race Synopsis: Wild Rain continued her good form this preparation, following her good first-up win in the Sir John Monash Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Caulfield on 16 July with another good Group win here. She soon drove through from her good barrier (2) and again went to the front. She then travelled well, got a break on turning for home and then fought back gamely to score in good style. Furnaces had a good trip in second place, moved up nicely nearing the home turn, challenged strongly at the 100m and then held on well for second in a photo. The favourite Heatherly missed the start and was caught deep from her outside barrier (8). She was then eased and raced in sixth place, one off the rails, racing a bit keenly. She moved up (deep) from the 600m and kept fighting on for a sound third after a difficult trip. Sheidel raced in third place, one off the rails. She moved up (three wide) approach the home turn and held on quite well for (2.1 lengths) fourth in a pleasing first-up run. O’Malley was last in the eight-horse field and caught the eye in running on late for (2.2 lengths) fifth. | |
