Bmw Caulfield Cup G1 3U OPEN ($3,150,000), 2400m 2:27.76
Race Synopsis: Mongolian Khan scored a most impressive win, his third at Group One level. He began well and settled nicely in seventh place, one off the rails, behind a good tempo. Opie Bosson made a quick move with him at the 600m and he raced to the front on turning into the home straight. He then dug deep when challenged for a very good win, in a strong staying effort. Ascot Gold Cup (Gr 1, 2m4f) winner Trip To Paris raced in 11th place on the rails, was beyond midfield at the home turn but stuck to the inner and got through to third at the 200m. He challenged strongly at the 100m and fought strongly for a very good second at his Australian debut. Our Ivanhowe was ninth, one off the rails and then tracked up with the eventual winner from the 600m, going to second on straightening. He challenged at the 200m and then held on really well for a good third. Gust Of Wind was smartly away and raced in fifth place, between runners. She got into clear running at the 250m and kept battling on in good style for (3.8 lengths) fourth. UK-trained Snow Sky began well, had a good trip in third place on the rails, but was shuffled back a bit at the home turn. He then got into clear running from the 200m and battled on well under his 58kg for a most creditable (4.8 lengths) fifth at this first run in Australia. Japanese-trained Fame Game was towards the rear on the rails and was pushed back to be last in the 18-horse field at the home turn. He went between runners on straightening and caught the eye running on late for (4.9 lengths) sixth. Who Shot Thebarman settled near last from his wide barrier (17), commenced a move (very wide) coming to the 600m, went widest of all at the home turn and kept running on resolutely for (5.2 lengths) seventh.

Australian-bred Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor x Centafit) started the race favourite and didn't let the punters down, going on to add the Group 1 Caulfield Cup to his earlier success as a three-year-old in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby and the Group 1 Australian Derby.
