Hi all. Would there be any chance of finding the 1989 running of this race and putting it up here to watch. Feroda won it as a novice i think for Arthur Moore. My uncle(rip)had a share in him and it would bring back some great memories if i could see it. Thank you.

Agree with you, foinavon67. This was a much more prestigious race back then and was regularly contested by horses who had run in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. The great Irish chaser Skymas won both races in 1977, while Little Bay had already won this twice (82 and 84). Badsworth Boy was never as effective on this track and had already run poorly in the race on two occasions. Now the race is run earlier in the meeting and is treated as a fairly ordinary handicap.

Thanks Bluemanc. Always preferred it when there were only two races before the National, and two good quality races as well. Eamonn Murphy did indeed have to sit out his National ride and I don't think he was the only one over the years to miss a National ride having been injured in this race. Graham Bradley was ok though. Also, I think that was Steve Smith-Ecc on Kathie's Lad and I think this was the day after the night his car was nicked - with him sleeping in the back of it!

Badsworth Boy, my all time favourite, is there any footage of his queen mother chase when he won by a distance?
