Not totally sad - Scimitarra was saved for stud and produced foals by, among others, Arazi, Dancing Brave and Green Desert. Not produced much but she is the maternal granddam of Group winning sprinter Captain Gerrard.
The big story here was Scimitarra breaking her leg about 2 out and had to be put down. You can see the moment the jockey realises and immediately tries to pull her up. Sad :(

I have the 1976 Oaks won by Pawneese and every one since 1980 onwards in full so I will dig it out.
