Actually, it wasn't Kauto's UK debut, but I agree with you and it's kind of what I mean. Even someone like Ruby Walsh thought Kauto was fine at the time, but turned out afterwards that he wasn't.

I remember this going out on C4. Always remember Graham Goode saying "Now, are we in for some fun!" As for the debate on remounting, I kind of side on the ruling we have now, in not allowing it. Racehorses may seem fine at the time because of the adrenalin pumping through their body, but injuries came come to the fore afterwards.

Remounting should not be allowed! Because, what if a horse gas a hairline fracture? And it seemed fine because the adrenaline rush (it blocks pain) and then break that bone even more because you wanted to finish a simple race. -.-

Actually, the 'Fighting Fifth' is the traditional title of the feature race on that raceday. It is named in honour of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, 5th Division. It is usually the third or fourth race on the card.

    'remounting souhld alway be allowed'?

Like when walsh got back on Kauto Star on its UK debut and risked ending its career?
Wouldnt have been much of a loss in your opinion i suppose??

Well when Ruby remounted Kauto it was found after that he had a cracked bone so that blows that argument.

I was actually at Newcastle racecourse the day this race took place. It was at the same meeting as the fighting fifth hurdle as i seem to remember. I never backed a winner all day :o(
