He means Alydar was a fantastic sire and remains dominant in pedigrees of top horses now, while Affirmed pretty much was nothing.

I read 'Wild Ride', and cannot think of what last laugh you may be referring from Alydar. It seemed Lundy/Calumet Farms were disgusting in their breeding practices with Alydar, even before they killed the horse.

    Greatest Kentucky Derby race..Secretariat.
Greatest athletic performance in the Preakness...Secretariat.
Greatest "athletic" performance in history...the one that made us applaud and cry while we watched...Secretariat winning the Belmont.

WTF...did you see how Affirmed's jockey beat the shit out of his horse to get him to win? DISGUSTING! This is what I DON'T want to see in a horse race...Hitler on a horse!

Did anyone else notice that Chick Anderson completely blew the 75' Derby call, incorrectly calling Foolish Pleasure the wrong name until right before the wire.

Sham and Alydar have to be two of the best horse of the 20th century not to have won a classic... although Alydar got the last laugh over Affirmed in the breeding shed.

Another cool video, enjoyed this one as much as your 1987-2006 montage. I saw my first Derby with Genuine Risk winning and I still find myself cheering Alydar to win over Affirmed even after all these years.

Not frauds. It looks like Rumbo might have taken the lead fm GR w/a little more time. They try so hard, don't impose human reactions/intentions on them. They are the unique creatures they are, one would back off if challenged, another would rise to the challenge. The dismissive attitude of humans is a mindset that for instance would have Ferdinand, end up in a slaughterhouse.

Thanks for this awesome video. '68 was the first Derby I remember watching as a young kid. LOL. I rooted for Forward Pass since I liked football. Great memories, like the stretch running frauds like Rumbo and Woodchopper. Everyone would start picking them for the Belmont. My friends and I liked to make fun of Rumbo. He seemingly loved to run alongside the other horses but never win the big races.
