The Star 150th Doncaster Mile G1 3U OPEN ($3,095,750), 1600m 1:37.61 | |
Race Synopsis: Three-year-old colt Kermadec settled just beyond midfield from his wide barrier (16) but with cover. Glen Boss steered him between runners rounding the home turn and he ran on smartly, hitting the front at the 100m before drawing clear to score impressively by almost two lengths. Real Impact went forward from his wide barrier (18) and settled (three wide) outside the leading duo. He went to the front on topping ‘the rise’ and fought gamely for second after working in the early stages. Royal Descent was about ninth, and out wide. She fanned very deep rounding the home turn, put in a good run at the 200m and fought well for third. Rudy had a nice trip from his good barrier (5) in fifth place on the rails. He looked a danger when he challenged at the 250m and then fought on well for (2.7 lengths) fourth. Pornichet travelled nicely midfield, between runners. He got a split at the 300m and was in a challenging position at the 200m before finishing (2.9 lengths) fifth while Arabian Gold ran on quite well from near last at the home turn for (4.3 lengths) sixth. |
Kermadec gave Chris Waller his 5th Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick on Saturday, thanks to a gem of a ride from Glen Boss.
