Slipper 2yo (C&G) G3 2CG OPEN ($66,000), 1200m 1:12.02 | |
Race Synopsis: This G3 2yo over 1200m only had six runners and one stable had half the field so no surprise then that they go the quinella of Yourdeel and Aotea Lad.
Yourdeel trailed the leaders and then got off and through second near the home turn then powered away in the tricky Slow7 footing presented to win by six lengths.
The winners and where they turned for home in race order were third (four-wide turning in and a neck behind the leader), fourth (six-off turning in and a length behind the leader), fourth (trail inner and a length behind the leader), second (three-off and a length behind the leader), led (five-off the fence), second (on the fence and half a length behind the leader), third (five off the fence and half a length behind the leader) and sixth (four-off the fence and four lengths from the leader).
Yourdeel was winning his second race from four starts and obviously his first Blacktype race plus has never missed paying a dividend and today adored the wet footing and clocked 1:12.02.
Aotea Lad sat fourth the outer and moved up third wide across the top but was chasing in vain as the winner gapped him the final 200m.
Moeraki the leader on settling was headed with 220m to go and then was third at the 100m and tried hard.
Scotch raced fifth and battled away distantly for fourth beaten almost ten lengths.
Equinox, the stablemate of the first two home, sat second the outer and dropped out the run home looking to be despising the footing.
Patch Prince never cleared the rear after being last away and was beaten over eighteen lengths.
This was not a G3 field and Listed at best plus the winner Yourdeel in the slow footing presented and track bias on display gapped these so it was more track conditions influenced.
The stablemate quinella today ran second and third equal in the Listed Karaka Million (1200m) a month earlier but Yourdeel ran third equal and Aotea Lad ran second with less than a length between that pair.
Today the gap was six lengths between them for an almost seven length swing so the footing clearly was the key determining factor.
