I love it- Victory Gallop man came from dead last, he must have the fastest kick but he starts off lazy, he did the same thing in the Belmont but he won!

There were a lot of good horses in this race. One of my all time favorites, Favorite Trick ran here too.

I just love seeing big time rivals in horse racing...... Doesn't happen to often...Top 3 1st Affirmed vs Alydar 2nd Real Quiet vs Victory Gallop 3rd Easy Goer vs Sunday Silence I wanted to put Secretariat vs Sham...But big red was in a league of his own....Sham was a great horse!! He was just born in the wrong year...

Real Quiet would've won the Belmont if it was 10 yards shorter.....

Victory gallop would have won the Derby if the Derby was as long as the Belmont.

This was a great Derby and Real Quiet went on to lose the Triple Crown in one of the best Belmont Stakes of all time. I was at Churchill Downs during this Derby and Real Quiet won me a lot of money. If you have never been to Louisville for the Derby Festival you should come. Thunder Over Louisville is the largest fireworks display in the world and in general for two weeks people just party.

I've never seen anything like Victory Gallop's titanic run in this race. I understand that The Sheets guys (handicappers who compute ground loss etc.) rate Victory Gallop's performance as the fastest ever. It is unbelievable considering the trouble he had and the ground he lost that he almost won the race. It was great to see him get the Belmont.

With all due respect to Luke Kruytbosch who is solid as they come, I miss Kurt Becker at Churchill. Becker is such a powerful caller, he reminds me of a modern day Chic Anderson-very resonant, powerful. Thank goodness he's still at Keeneland.

Real Quiet is actually my favorite horse of all time. One of the gutsiest horses out there he raced with and beat some nice horses. He ran in the last few years where racehorses were made of flesh bone and not glass.

It is an amazing story. Real Quiet was disliked many people for some odd reason. He may not have been the best horse in the Triple Crown, but those who didn't like him should at least give him respect for what he DID accomplish. He was a gutsy horse. Take care.

I was at the Belmont that year live, seated near the wire. You had to see 100,000 people go from wild celebration to shock in a matter of 25 seconds. It was a surreal scene. Obviously, up to a mile and 7/16 Real Quiet was the better horse, though.
