I don't blame trainer Jeremy Noseda for being pretty unhappy with the ride Grandeur got in this race by Gary Stevens. Noseda called the ride "ill judged" when speaking about it to the media, and quite frankly it was, IMO. I've always thought Gary Stevens to be among the all-time great American jockeys and can rarely ever remember having had any criticism about any of his rides over the years. But this definitely wasn't Stevens's finest hour in the saddle. A couple of minutes after the Manhattan Handicap had concluded, I was already thinking along very similar lines to what Jeremy Noseda ending up saying to the press on Tuesday. The ride was ill judged and Stevens left an obviously full of run Grandeur far too much to do through the home straight. Don't get me wrong, I think Real Solution ran like the best horse in the race and I believe he would've won regardless. But I also believe a more aggressive ride on Grandeur by Stevens would've seen him finish 3rd at a minimum and possibly even 2nd, IMO. That being said, this ride still wasn't nearly as bad as the ride Grandeur got by Garrett Gomez in the 2012 Hollywood Derby. The race where Gomez dropped Grandeur so far out the back he was almost in the parking lot, and then he ask Grandeur to make up an impossible amount of ground on Unbridled Command in that race.

In addition to my previous opinion--Each commentator who "blames the horse" should examine all their videos and learn more about stallions.
