| Race Synopsis: It’s A Dundeel was third early but was shuffled back to second last in the eight-horse field. He eased out three wide after passing the 600m and quickly moved up, sprinting to the lead at the 300m then racing away for a most impressive win by almost seven lengths and become a dominant favourite for the Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick on 13 April. Sacred Falls was fifth on the rails, got a nice split at the 300m and battled on to just take second. Tatra was fourth to the 600m, moved up three wide at the turn, and battled on for third. Kingdoms moved up wide early to race outside the leader (Bloodbuzz Ohio) then held on fairly well for an encouraging fourth. The outsider Bloodbuzz
Ohio led the field to the home turn and although he weakened for a distant fifth, ran surprisingly well in this much stronger class. Solemn plugged on from last for sixth while Hvasstan, who was sixth most of the way to the 600m and under pressure from the turn, finishing a disappointing seventh. | |
