He wasn't born at Claiborne Farms. He was born at Meadow Stables.

Secretariat vs. the Clock.....It was the only measure of competition he had.

I hope to see that barn near Richmond someday.I go that way often to D.C.Its also near Kings Dominon. The barn was moved across a country road as the VA State Fair took over the old grounds.

His heart weighed 22.5 pounds, twice that of a normal horse. Trully incredible.

It was unfortunate for Sham to be born the same year as Secretariat. Had Secretariat been born a year earlier or a year later, Sham would have been the
TC Winner in 1973. After the Belmont Sham never won another race. Unfortunate because he ran his heart out, but Big Red was just too much for him and the rest of the field, his records will stand probably forever. Long live Big Red, thanks for the ride.

Claiborne Farm was NOT Secretariat's birthplace. He was born at Meadow Stable in Doswell, Virginia and retired to Claiborne Farm. Although he certainly was the pride of Lexington in the years that he was there and I had the privilege of several private showings with Big Red as a UK athlete. Incredible memory.

Thats after he was pulled up he broke Swaps record. Swaps time was 2:38 1/5 as a 4 year old running on a lighting fast track out there in Hollywood Park land. Big Red did it in 2:37 4/5. That is still a wolrd record offically for Swaps in a 1 5/8 mile race.

Those were three beautiful races run by the finest horse I have ever seen. I remember watching them with my mother and we burst into tears over Secretariat amazing wins.

All I can say is Amen...I remember watching it and also watching my mom's mouth drop wide open. To this day, the single finest athletic feat I have ever seen.

It wasn't a match between Sham and Secretariat. It was a race between Sham and the others, while Secretariat went out for a romp. ;)

After he finished the mile and a half at Belmont, I think I read that he also broke the 1 5/8 record too during his cool down/deceleration. Some horse!

I'm nor religious, but that horse had to have been touched by the hand of God. I saw it that day...the pre-race thinking was he couldn't go long. He ran all twelves that race, like a metronome, broke a great horse and made people cry. To this day, I've never seen anything like it. The greatest athletic performance I ever saw, man or beast. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, that horse was a sight to behold! It beggars belief what that horse could do.

i think i read somewhere then when the autopsy was done on the horse, its heart was twice the size of a normal heart...or something like that.

This race will live immortal in the hearts of racing fans. The jockey just keeps looking back, and there's just nobody anywhere NEAR him. How on Earth can a horse have such tremendous reserves of energy like that?!

do you realize he hit the 1 1/4 mark at 1:59 flat, faster than his Derby of 1:59 2/5, in the Belmont Stakes, coming around that final turn w/a quarter mile to go on that wide open stretch, never faltered, kept his rhythm and conformation and did it in 2:24 flat a record that still stands on dirt? the grueling TC, 3 races in 5 wks, and set records in all three, unheard of, (yes the Preakness too)

Only those uneducated Canadian race fans could believe for a millisecond that Kennedy Road, a great horse in his own, had any chance of beating Secretariat that day. Kennedy Road had just come off a track record
performance for 6 furlongs within a week of the Canadian International. I was in the crowd that day too.

I got to meet Secretariat when I was 7. (My Mom dated a horse Trainer, so it was easy to get to see him)
I also got to meet Seattle slew, affirmed and others.
Besides being "Super Horse" he also was the best looking of Them all. His red coat was so bight he glowed. He also had 3 white sox and a white star on his head. He also was the most friendly. I couldn't touch Seattle Slew or Affirmed. Secretariat let me scratch his star and would "point" with his non-socked legged.
