Those other horses are great no doubt, but when another horse comes along and breaks that unbelievable record set by Secretariat in the 1973 Belmont (its 40 years this year) than I would take my hat off to him!!!

Look at Barbaro Kentucky Derby win. Also look at Monarchos Kentucky Derby Win. Secretariat may be a legend but he is not untouchable. Also there is a reason why Man O War is rated as 1 on the greatest horses of the modern century. Hes the best to ever step foot on the track.

You show me Seabiscuit (or any horse) that won a major race by "more" than 31 lenths than I will agree with you!!

Secretariat = Most Overated Horse Of All Time. Seabiscuit and Man O' War would whoop his butt anyday, especially Seabiscuit

Fun to watch; thanks for posting. That Belmont would bring anyone to tears. Interesting to note Secretariat and Sham were related. They had the same maternal grandfather.

It's very easy. Just show me a horse who has run a mile and half faster than 2:24 and I will listen to what you have to say.

Big Red was the BEST EVER!!!! No horse in the history of racing could have beat Big Red on that day of the 73 Belmont, PERIOD!!!!

OK. I cannot say Eclipse is the "greatest ever" any more than you Americans can say that Secretariat is. Lets be honest. There are many great horses. We do not know which one is the best, We never will.

NEVER said US produces the best - YOUR WORDS, NOT MINE! Did you EVER see tapes of Eclipse run or are there fractional speeds for him available...NOT! To state Eclipse was better than SEC is a complete UK biased statement because NOBODY saw him run? The 18-0 record means ZILCH because how in God's name does anyone know who he was besting??? Let's forget Eclipse and simply say "Silver", the Lone Ranger's gallant horse was the finest ever! Yes...crude sarcasm because YOU inspire sarcasm!

You should grow up, sonny, and stop insulting others in childish way. As for American respect, it doesn't cut much ice in the rest of the world. Of course you cn compare anything with anything. Just because you are ignorant of the 18th century, and have an opinion that anything the US produces is the best, it doesn't mean what you think is necessaily right.

  • Dannykeith46 Says:

    30/11/2012 4:29:32 PM

You are kidding me right? Have you seen a doctor for a serious checkup? Tell me you are NOT comparing a horse that ran in the 18th century to Secretariat you complete ignoramous!!! The award was made in Eclipse's name SOLELY due to respect. If Americans think he is #1, explain to me why he is COMPLETELY MISSING from the Bloodhorse Top 100 horse list??? BBMTGE is "SO RIGHT"...you are remarkably clueless and rather comical with your comments, almost bordering on insanity!!!

  • Dannykeith46 Says:

Forget the W/L records because they are truly skewed! E.G.- if Frankel so much as "farted", Cecil would have kept in his stable for an additional month! MOW's trainer never entered him in the Kentucky Derby because he didn;t think he was ready and Ruffian was scratched the morning of a race because of her previous 12 hour eating habits! Lauren/Tweedy raced SEC when he was ill and without proper training because Tweedy felt she couldn't scratch SEC with a world on watch...TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

  • Dannykeith46 Says:

    30/11/2012 5:29:46 AM

One final note: The PRIMARY aspect of Secretariat's world-class stature is his unfathomable combination of "sprinter" and "stayer" ability. An extremely rare combo, I challenge ANYONE to come up wth a horse that reflected pinnacle status on BOTH accounts at SEC's level. SEC typically posted sprinter fractions at 1 mile or less (once even running 3 furlongs in 32.4 seconds!). Regarding the "stayer" aspect, watch the video and need I say more...a picture is worth a thousand words!

  • Dannykeith46 Says:

    30/11/2012 5:23:32 AM

Hey mate....I'm NOT trying to convince you! Simply stated, you mentioned in a previous post to "bbmtge" that you wanted FACTS and I am giving you FACTS! Here is what it all boils down to....NO ONE can possibly "PROVE" any horse is irrefutably the "Greatest Ever". However, NO HORSE can possibly boast the myriad of supernatural like performances posted by Secretariat. All I am stating is that Secretariat's "resume" merits the closest consideration for that extremely subjective title!

  • SugarTomAppleRoger Says:

    30/11/2012 2:31:41 AM

Sorry. You won't convince me. Greatest racehorse of all time is stupid. It implies that he is better than jumpers, standardbred horses and flat horses on turf and at varying distances. You mention North America, but there are other countries. I am not disputing that he was a great racehorse, but so were Niatross and Red Rum.
