To put into perspective how great this hawthorn side is Kevin Sheedys Bombers won 4 flags in 26 years Alastair Clarksons Hawks won 4 flags in 8 years Alastair Clarksons Hawks are the first Hawthorn side to 3 peat Hawthorn were 2nd last in 2004 on the ladder and third last in 2005 so 11 years after being at the bottom they have won 4 flags Hawks also lost the 2011 prelim due to bad kicking and also lost the 2012 grand final by poor kicking in 2014 we lost key players ( Mitchell Gibson Lake Rioli Lewis) for 8 weeks (each of them missed 8 weeks) We also lost our coach for 5 games due to illness and still won the flag by 64 points in 2015 we lost our assistant coach in the last 5 games. Roughead had cancer on his lip and our assistant coach Brett Ratten lost his son due to a car accident. Hawks also lost the first qualifying final and were thought to be finished however they thumped adelaide then returned to perth to beat minor premiers fremantle then returned to the mcg 1 week later to smash the eagles by 46 points.
This Hawthorn side without doubt is the most succesful team of the modern era. theyve won 13 premierships in 51 years they've won the most AFL premierships ( 5 premierships 1991 2008 2013 2014 2015) They are the 4th most succesful team and to think they only had 9 premierships before 2008
This Hawthorn side ladies and gentleman is by far the most superior team and are better the lions side of 2001 2002 2003 the Lions won their three consecutive flags by a collective 85 points; the Hawks’ three wins totalled 124 points. the lions were also helped with a merge with fitzroy and were offered a generous salary cap to lure in players. the hawks didn't have none of that.
