Pretty disgraceful on the part of Roger Varian and the connections of
Kingston Hill to threaten the clerk of the course at Doncaster with their
horse not running if they don't water the ground before Saturday. What a
crock of bullshit. EVERYONE should have to run on whatever ground mother
nature provides, it's as simple as that. To insist on watering before hand
only serves to give Kingston Hill or any of the horses who prefer cut in
the ground an edge in the race, and that's just not right. If they wanted
Kingston Hill to run on ground that would likely be good to soft so badly
they should've left him in the mix for the Prix Niel at Longchamp the
following day. IMO, that's the race that would've better suited Kingston
Hill anyway. I think it's "iffy" at best that he'll actually even stay the
14-1/2f trip in the English St Leger. Varian coddles this colt too much the
way it is. He ran well enough on good ground at Epsom.
