By far the biggest bet I ever made on the derby was 200.00. By 4 or 5 times the biggest. Guess who I bet? Never thought I'd see the race again. Thank You. BTW, I'm diverse. I had Animal Kingdom this year. But one tenth the bet. A few losers in between those 2. :)

Sunny's Halo is my horse's grandsire... I always remind him of that when he's being particularly lazy :)

Wow, this brought tears to my eyes... I remember as a kid watching Sunny's Halo, Ferdinand, John Henry... I remember Delahoussaye and Shoemaker. I wanted to be a jockey so bad, I used to drink tons of coffee because someone told me it would stunt my growth. Once I was taller than 5' 2" (maxxed out at 5'4"), I was crushed cos I thought I was too tall. I am a horse trainer today. I remember these horses... how I wanted to run for the roses.

Virtually the entire Canadian horseracing industry (owners, trainers, grooms, fans, etc) were passengers along with Eddie Delahoussaye as Sunny's Halo did his country proud, following in Northern dancer's footsteps.

    Great memory!

yes--that was a great race--she was challenged eyeball to eyeball briefly then pulled away--a really stellar performance--just a tick off the track recored set i believe by another great canadian mare--glorious song--who finished second to the mighty spectacular bid in his awesome 4 yr old year of 1980--would love to see that race!!
