The guy is overrated. Most everyday lately he sounds like Terry Wallace.
And Terry was awful. If he wasn't calling races in NY no one would give
this bum any credit. Race calling is hard no doubt. But he ain't a top 10
caller of all time. The guy sucks. And what other announcer do you know
that calls some races and then takes the day off. Come on fat boy ain't
that good and he never was
To Mr. Durkin,
I hope this message gets to you. It was a HUMID summer day and it was the
first time my father took me to the racetrack, in hopes of finding
something to bond over. The year was 1994 and my father took me to see holy
bull in the travers because he knew i liked the colts name. Anyways there i
was, a three year old boy holding a $2 win ticket on the "bull" resting on
my fathers shoulders. I remember watching in disbelief as you unleashed the
words forever engrained in my head. "MIKE SMITH LETS THE BULL ROLL". That
moment was not only one of the greatest moments of my life today, but also
the start of a bond between father and son. I am now a 23 year old adult
and every week my father and i catch a few races on the saturday card.
Thankyou for service and you will always be in the fans heart!

Tom was right up there with the other classic announcers...... (Chick Anderson/Dave Johnson/Bob Weems/Joel Hernandez)-etc.
