R9 HASTINGS | 27 August 2011 |
Makfi Challenge Stakes G1 OPEN ($159,000), 1400m 1:23.12 | |
Race Synopsis: The track was on the better side of soft and more like a dead/easy rating and times on the whole were ordinary.
The time of this feature was two seconds (twelve lengths) or more quicker than the other 1400m events on the card and was a pressure-free race and a sprint home.
The track today returned three winning leaders, a winner from the trail and two others from a handy spot, so unless the tempo was serious to the home turn it was tough to swamp or come over the top.
The feature did show that as four-year-olds the likes of Jimmy Choux, Lion Tamer and Scarlett Lady had come back a treat and would be more than competitive at WFA and/or under handicap conditions at G1 level.
A good opening spring salvo in New Zealand and the form, as it almost always does, will stand up at home and in Australia over the rest of the spring and the season.
