| Race Synopsis: Azkadellia followed up her good third in the Doncaster Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) to take out her first Group One in impressive style here. She settled back in the field in 12th place, improved nicely along the rails rounding the home turn and got through to fourth at the 300m. She dashed along the rails to take the lead at the 200m and then went to the post strongly for a very good win. It was also an excellent ride by Damien Oliver. Heavens Above raced back in 11th place on the rails before getting through between runners on straightening, going to fifth at the 300m. She took a moment to wind up and then sprinted strongly, briefly looking a threat at the 100m before finishing a very good second. Noble Protector had a nice trip from her good barrier (2) racing in third place on the rails. She put in a run at the 200m and then battled on nicely for third. Lady Le Fay settled in tenth place, improved wide (under riding) rounding the home turn. She put in a solid run from the 300m, in the centre of the track, to finish (4.4 lengths) fourth, now looking suited to further than 1600m. Zanbagh had a good run about seventh, between runners, and angled into clear running at the home turn. She then battled on quite well for (6.6 lengths) fifth while Vergara led the field to the 200m before finishing (7.6 lengths) sixth. | |
