| Race Synopsis: After placings in six of her first nine starts, including three at Group 1 level, the Tony McEvoy-trained filly Oohood broke through for her first win, doing so in Group 1 class. She settled back in ninth place, before improving (wide with cover) from the 800m. She moved up well on straightening and then finished strongly to score a good win, albeit by a very narrow margin. After settling in eighth place, Fiesta had a good trip, tracking up nicely (wide with cover) to be fourth at the home turn. She looked the winner when she went to the front coming to the 100m only to be caught on the post for a close second. The progressive Mark Newnham-trained filly Nakeeta Jane, having only her third start, ran on strongly from last in the 13-horse field for a close-up third in a very promising performance. The favourite Miss Fabulass was fifth early on but commenced racing keenly, so much so that Kerrin McEvoy let her move up (three wide) from the 600m. She got to the front at the 300m and then fought on for (0.3 lengths) fourth, her inexperienced racing manners proving costly at this stage of her career. Queensland-trained Baccarat Baby was back in tenth place coming to the home turn and did well in this class, running on very well for fifth, beaten less than a length while Mark Newnham-trained filly Maid Of Heaven battled on really well after being eighth at the turn before finishing (1.2 lengths) sixth in another promising effort. | |
