| Race Synopsis: In an all-fillies finish, Team Hawkes-trained filly Estijaab staged an excellent performance in overcoming a difficult barrier (14) and take out this famous Group One race in game fashion. She was brilliantly away and Brenton Avdulla soon took her across to lead. She then travelled nicely (first 600m 36.62), lifted after being challenged, got a break at the 200m and then on well to score by a long head in a gutsy and very good effort. Tony McEvoy-trained filly Oohood is still a maiden with placings at all five starts, now including two at Group One level. She settled in tenth place, improved nicely (between runners) at the home turn, got through on the inner to third at the 100m and kept running on well for second, beaten a long head. Sunlight was smartly away before settling in fifth place, one off the rails with cover. She moved up nicely (deep) rounding the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and kept fighting gamely for third. Written By was quickly away and settled outside the leader and eventual winner (Estijaab). He looked dangerous when he challenged at the 300m and then kept battling on well for (1.8 lengths) fourth. Seabrook raced back in 11th place, tracked up (wide with cover) from the 600m and kept running on well, wide out, for (2.1 lengths) fifth. Long Leaf settled near the tail of the field from his wide barrier (15), went widest of all on turning for home and then ran on really well for (3.1 lengths) sixth in a very smart effort. | |
