Harrolds Australian Derby G1 3 OPEN ($2,137,500), 2400m 2:35.67 | |
Race Synopsis: Angel Of Truth, last week's Tulloch Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) winner at Rosehill, backed-up well with another solid front-running effort here. He went to the front, set a reasonable tempo on the soft 7 track, was challenged coming to the home turn but grabbed a break on straightening and was not threatened from that point to score decisively, running the 2400m on strongly. New Zealand colt Madison County, second last week was again the runner-up. He settled well back in 12th place, saved ground along the inner rounding the home turn, continued along the rails to be second on reaching the 200m but was out-stayed from that point by the winner to hold (3.5 lengths) second. Fellow New Zealanders Surely Sacred, who raced back in eighth place, tracked up (wide with cover) from the 800m, moved up well at the 200m and kept fighting on nicely to take third with The Chosen One making considerable late ground from last for (3.7 lengths) fourth. |
