Terminal velocity of a human is 117-210mph depending on posture. The only way to beat terminal velocity is to be propelled or to remove drag, which doesn't seem to be the case in either situation. Yet he reaches 536mph? I know the composition of the air at 96000ft is different than what it is at sea level, but don't know how that affects drag.. Is it the different composition of air that allows him to reach these speeds?

Does anyone know the path the balloon and capsule took after the jump.Saw somthing in the sky in northern ,CA .Looked like it could have been the balloon.Just a small white dot moving across the sky.

Felix did break a record - the highest ever jump without a drogue chute. Also, Joe performed three test jumps from a balloon during Project Excelsior on the way to setting that altitude record. If you're gonna have a whinge on the internet at least get your facts straight.

Read the title. This was a test jump. He is preparing to break that record.

nasa pays close attention to these guys, because they are developing escape systems and systems that can save you if there is a suit breach. At 23 miles, conditions are just as hostile as at 200 miles.

Am I missing something? Did not Joe Kittenger jump from 102,800 feet in 1960? He free fell 4 minutes and 36 seconds. They even had better footage of the jump in 1960

nice vid but it didnt show the actual jump. its like a story without a climactic ending. with todays technology surely you could attach a helmet cam or something. hopefully you will do a better job of documenting the full-scale event

Yes and back then he wasn't using a compact go pro camera. He was using a high powered suit camera with a much more powerful and reinforced lens.
