"Easy Goer's swollen avocado, lumpy & misshapen ankles & knees were frequently being rubbed, packed in ice & treated with other remedies. His joint's couldn't withstand his massive frame. His legs couldn't handle the pounding. His nagging ailments were in existence throughout his career(a testament to his greatness)& became worse in his very brief 4 yr old year." Joe Hirsch. Legitimate explanation & he no doubt wasn't at his best here. It was needed facing 2 other champions yielding 7-17 pounds
Well, there's always an excuse, isn't there?
Criminal Type and Housebuster were both excellent horses. Criminal Type beat Sunday Silence later in the year and was Horse of the Year, and Housebuster was a champion sprinter. No shame in losing to them.
I've never understood why fans of horses always want to come up with some excuse every time the horse loses. Guess what? Even good horses lose sometimes.
Paulick: "Easy Goer came up lame after winning his prep stakes for this race. Mcgaughey trained him in bar shoes & admitted he rushed him, giving just 11 days between the Gold Stage prep & the Met Mile. He has always had problematic ankles & his handlers have had to work overtime on them this year. His soundness problems talk had been swirling around for weeks leading up. Hirsch said 5lbs means 5 lengths",EG conceded 7 to 20lbs in this & 12 to 18lbs in his Suburban win running a near trk. record

I've been waiting for this one. Thanks for posting. What a year that would have been had Sunday, Easy, and Criminal not gotten injured.
