| Race Synopsis: In a surprise result the $61 chance Rebel Dane broke through for his first win since September last year in taking out his second Group One race. He settled in fifth place on the rails from his good barrier (4), got along the inner rounding the home turn, hit the front on straightening and then battled on strongly to win well. Fell Swoop raced outside the leader (Buffering), went deep rounding the home turn (apparently looking for the best going) and then kept fighting gamely for a very good second. Japonisme showed good pace and raced close to the leaders in third place, moved up deep nearing the home turn and kept battling on well to hold third in a photo. The Quarterback raced in last place to the home turn, got between runners on turning for home and caught the eye with his late-closing (1.3 lengths) fourth. Under The Louvre raced back in seventh place and made late ground, without threatening, to finish (1.8 lengths) fifth. Buffering showed his customary pace to lead. He was taken deeper rounding the home turn but just battled over the closing stages to finish (1.9 lengths) sixth. Chautauqua settled near last on the rails, got along the inner coming to the home turn but was soon under pressure. He then just battled on without showing us usual finishing brilliance and was quite disappointing in finishing (2 lengths) seventh, dead-heating with English who raced in sixth place, one off the rails. She moved up (wide) at the turn but just held her ground in the straight, perhaps being unsuited by the Soft5 track. | |
