I seem to recall that Estrapade and Dahlia shared shedrows and both fillies suffered from the same malady - being unable to feed milk to their foals. They had the misfortune of watching their babies drink from another horse's teat. Still, it is hard to imagine a barn with two better fillies. I believe both horses had "FR" for France after their names in racing programs.

Dahlia was yet another great horse from the 70's. A great decade for racing. I also have to say the jocks ride was perfect. I might be wrong here but she paved the way for female horses beating the boys in modern America. Used to be they could only do it on turf but we all know that has changed quite a bit since then. Great post CF and thanks again.

I remember this, I had such a hard time knowing who to root for I loved Dahlia, London Company (by Tom Rolfe), Key to the Kingdom (Bold Ruler-Key Bridge), Magazine (Prince John). But I always preferred the fillies, so I rooted for her.

What a GREAT mare. Gosh I remember her rivalry with her fellow Euro mare Allez France, who also regularly beat the boys. And now a three year old filly has won the Arc in 2008!

Yes,she sure did! Dahlia became a champion grass horse in 1974 and became the first female Thoroughbred to earn $1 million. She was an amazing filly!
