Ridden by Jamie Osborne and trained by John Mulhern, Flashing Steel carried the colours of the former Taioseach Charles Haughey and defied top-weight to land the spoils here, having failed to finish in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on his previous start. He was defying top-weight of 12st and a massive weight concession to the runner-up in victory here.
