Despite retiring hurt overnight on 39 after a nasty knock on the arm, Sunil Gavaskar returned to the crease, smashing the Aussie attack all over the Adelaide Oval. He went on to post his 9,000th Test run on his way to 166 not out during the First Test of the 1985-1986 series.
