Chief singer was a sick colt after ascot, his coat was falling out and he was losing condition, great training feat by ron sheather , champion sprinter of 1984.
Wow - not sure if I have ever seen this but my goodness what a performance. I was there when El Gran Senor beat him in the Guineas and it took an amazing horse to beat him. I am sure the connections of Chief Singer were thrilled by his Coventry win
I remember this really well. He flopped at Newmarket a month later, which is why he was forgotten in the betting for the 2,000 Guineas. I would have loved to see him and El Gran Senor meeting again in the St James' Palace. I'm not saying the result would have been different from the Guineas, but they were both improving and it could have been one of the really great races.
