this was the year when their was no racing for a month from ascot midweek febuary meeting on the 3rd to sandows imperial cup hurdle meeting there was 120+ meetings lost to the weather that season mostly though snow and frost
Yes, Ten Plus was slow to reach his peak over hurdles and ran several times during the 1984/85 season without winning. A sad loss to jump racing at a relatively young age.
This was Ten Plus' second attempt in the Sun Alliance Hurdle. In 1985 he finished 5th at 66/1. When he was injured in the Gold Cup, I recall Fulke Walwyn in tears.
The Sun Alliance Chase had 30 runners and 9 finishers. All horses were fine. It was the last year with a 30 runner limit for Novices. Since then all chases have had fields reduced. At the final ditch 9 horses were taken out incl Bolands Cross and Sound Judgement. The first two were hit 15 times after the last. thanks for the upload
Good. Thanks for the reply - and in particular, many thanks for all your uploads of these races from the 80's. I've really enjoyed watching them and catching up with the seasons gone by.

Cross Master (R Crank) was a horse I fancied as he had won the 3m Novices chase from Strath Leader on 1st January that season.

Yes he was still going well enough 3 out. I didnt realise until after the race he had broken his lower leg.

Two very exciting races. The novice chase was certainly an incident packed one! (Were all the fallen horses alright?).

Would have won the Gold Cup if he had not fallen 3 out, or was it 2 out.
