I remember this race the brillant bishops yarn a good horse on his day, used to be ridden by daljeet kalirai a sikh jockey at home in most of his work at toby baldings fyfield yard.
You are right this race will always be The Massey Ferguson Gold Cup. It is strange to see so few runners in this race compared to the competitive handicap it has become today.
Must admit I do still find it hard not to think of the Mackeson and the Whitbread ...
I must have seen most of these late 1987 races as they happened, but I don't have many clear memories from that part of my life, so it's great to see them again.
