He was for me a far better performer than most NO better than all that usually run in this contest Persian Punch in particular. Perian Punch was a complete plodder a very good 1 but complete plodder where as Further Flight was quick enough to not only win over 1m6f Ebor but also 1m4f St Simon Stakes.
Further Flight was deservedly loved, but his achievement in winning 5 consecutive Jockey Club Cups is weakened by the fact that from 1991 the Prix du Cadran - France's most important staying race - was moved to the same day to strengthen Arc weekend, and took away a lot of the competition and meant he didn't usually beat that much. His Group 1 wins, and his Ebor, are better reflections of what he was capable of, and he may have been the best Flat horse to have raced for as many as 11 seasons.
