A frustrated Simon Torrens could not contain his disappointment after parting company with Mica Malpic, the 3/1 favourite, with victory seemingly in the bag. It was left to Peter Smithers to gain the first win of his career aboard Outside The Door. The winning rider spoke of his joy to Kevin O'Ryan.
